Student of the Month: Dave

Each month the studio will feature one yogi who demonstrates commitment to their practice and brings enthusiasm and positive energy with them. This month’s featured student is Dave.

Dave began his practice in January 2012, after two major back surgeries. Although he’d heard much about Bikram from other people, he wanted to try it out for himself. Dave says he “used to wake up with incredible pain in my lower back every day, [however] since starting my practice of Bikram yoga the pain is almost gone my back feels much stronger.” Additionally, Dave has come off some previously prescribed medications and had a recent physical “with 100% success, all my tests were normal with no issues at all.”

As pictured, Dave’s favorite pose is camel because it “ feels great to open your heart in the pose,” and finds rabbit to be the most challenging. Due to continuing back issues, he finds it difficult to connect his forehead to his knees but says, “I will keep trying!” He was born in Kenya, speaks four languages, loves drumming and is trying to persuade his two sons to come to the studio.

He was chosen as this month’s featured student because he always comes into the studio ready to go to work and no matter how tough a class he comes out with a smile. According to studio owner Chelsea:

Dave is the student who leaves the studio and it makes me feel like bringing this yoga to Cincinnati was well worth it. People like him show Bikram yoga to millions around the world, because people receive the healing power both mentally & physically. He shows others that ‘thing’ they’re looking for in pills and spreads his love and relationship with the yoga to everyone he knows. We are so grateful to have Dave in our Bikram Community.

Congratulations Dave! Thank you for sharing your practice with us! Namaste.
